Eat Off the Floor Placemats (Weaving)

So clean you could eat off the floor.

Inspired by the abstract cobblestone designs on streets in Portugal, I created a set of 11.5” x 18” dinner mats. Taking from the aesthetics I had noticed in the cobblestone motifs, I mixed boldly gothic and swirly feminine elements in my designs. In sketching and planning, it took me several iterations to find a good balance of the two. I calculated dimensions and mapped out the designs in StitchFiddle before weaving them using a combination of Greek and Malaysian supplementary weave techniques. After weaving the first placemat, I adjusted my designs to account for the technique being slightly more warp-faced (as is common in backstrap weaving).
